Movie Review: Rangasthalam - Insane Action, Story and Screenplay
Ramcharan and Sukumar's most awaited and much-hyped movie from past few months is finally out. It was a raw attempt by the director to bring back memories of typical villages in Godavari districts and their way of living with the story in it. Sukumar who is well-known for his classy type movies, first time seems to have jumped into the raw massy style of movie making. He never missed out on the intelligence of the lead character despite his defect in hearing.
Plot: Rangasthalam is a village placed somewhere on the banks of river Godavari, with people working hard in agriculture for their daily living. A president of the village (jagapathibabu) is in control of the whole village from 30 years, and he takes advantage of his village people and collects excess money from them for their loans. Chittibabu (ramcharan) and his brother (aadi pinisetti) turn against the president and get nominated for the president post to turn the fate of Rangasthalam. They take Prakash raj's (dakshina murthy) help for presidential polls, But his brother gets killed by an unknown group of people. He kills all the people related to his brother's demise, including Jagapathi Babu. He finds a clue about his brother's death and goes to meet Prakash raj, but he meets with a huge lorry accident, where he goes into coma stage. Ramcharan serves him for 2 years to bring back him from the coma. All the story gets revealed when he comes back from the coma and Ramcharan asks about his brother's death.
Ramcharan has been at his all-time best in the movie, in the role of 'Sound engineer' chittibabu. His Godavari slang, rugged look, and hearing defect have grabbed everyone's attention on the screen. He managed more onto his body language than his expressions, he has lived into the character of a guy with hearing problem. His expressions while killing some goons near the climax part were really amazing. Adi pinisetty, as usually a top notch actor and his character has kept the audience waiting until the end to know who he is. His performance in death scenes was ultimate. Samantha, the one who deserves great recognition for her part in the movie. She has killed everything with her expressions and appearance, like never seen before samantha. She was apt as a typical village girl. Jagapathi babu and his screen appearance as a heartless village president were really great and he once again proved himself. Anasuya as rangamma atta, also at her best in performance as she owned the character and her performance was very appealing.
It will be a huge list to name all the characters, as everyone lived up to their roles and be a part of intense screenplay of the director SUKUMAR. The director must be appreciated for the screenplay oriented towards body language and also the script strength. The way story gets revealed at the end of the movie has been top-notch, as he proved himself at the past. Althouth the movie was dated back in 1980s the focus was more on human feelings and way of living than the surrounding details. There were few unanswered and doubtful logic in the story, whose answers were left to the audience. This movie will be the best movie ever for both Ramcharan and Sukumar. Dsps songs were unforgettable and one should thank him for the song 'Jigel rani' song that brought back the village backdrop two decades ago.
Verdict: The movie was high on story detail with multiple characters which added up one by one got justified at each and every part of the movie. The movie's length was exhausting, although there are no unnecessary scenes, still it felt very heavy all through. The violence scenes in the movie were very well taken but at times sounded too heavy and excessive. The screenplay of the movie is the heart of the movie, but still there is clumsiness of the scene's details.
Overall, an intense action movie and worth watching for Ramcharan's performance and Sukumar's insanely intelligent screenplay.

My rating would be 4/5
